What funding can I get?
Home retrofitting is becoming increasingly popular as homeowners seek to make their properties more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. However, the upfront cost of retrofitting can be prohibitive, particularly for those on low incomes. While we do not offer grants or funding to support home retrofitting at this time, there are other options available.
Government and local government schemes may offer community funding or grants to support retrofit installations in some circumstances. It’s worth researching these options to see if you may be eligible for financial support to make your home more sustainable. In addition, there are a variety of measures you can take to reduce the cost of retrofitting, such as carrying out the work gradually over time or looking for energy-efficient products on sale.
Home Assessment Vouchers
Funded by the West of England Combined Authority the Retrofit West Home Assessment Vouchers allow you to claim up to £250 off an energy efficiency assessment of your home with one of our trusted service providers. The surveys vary from thermal imaging or air-tightness testing to full retrofit plans. Apply for your voucher here.
Community Group Grants
Community groups across the West of England can access grant funding for upskilling and developing their own retrofit services.
At Retrofit West, we are offering large grants of up to £20,000 to bolster Groups’ capacity and smaller grants of up to £5,000 to stimulate demand and engage homeowners.
If you’re an organisation, group, or individual in Bristol, South Gloucestershire or Bath, you can tap into our funding for expert retrofit advice and services. We’re offering a range of grants to community groups like yours. From large awards of up to £20,000 to bolster your capacity to smaller grants of up to £5,000 to stimulate demand and engage homeowners.
We aim to empower community groups to dive into the exciting world of retrofit services. Homeowners need reliable, trusted sources for retrofit advice, and who better than community groups to deliver it?
Don’t worry if you’re not incorporated; you can still apply by teaming up with an incorporated organisation to handle the funds.

Bristol City Leap Bright Green Homes
To support energy efficiency and cost-saving measures for homes across the South West, Bristol City Leap is working with local authorities on the Bright Green Homes project. The project funds and supports eligible households to install a range of low carbon measures including:
- Wall floor and loft insulation
- Air source heat pump
- Solar PV
To access these energy saving measures, your household must fall within the following criteria: Currently on Electric, Oil, LPG or Solid Fuel heating, Energy Performance Certificate rating of G, F, E or D. Live in Bristol City, North Somerset and Bath or Northeast Somerset Council area. Have an annual household income of £31,000 or lower.

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO)
ECO is an obligation for energy suppliers to help households reduce the costs of heating their homes by fitting energy-efficiency measures. There are differing amounts of support between the energy suppliers and offer different forms of improvements - you will need to check with your energy company if you are eligible.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme
Did you know that you could be eligible for a grant that covers a portion of the replacement cost for your fossil fuel heating system with a biomass boiler or a heat pump? To qualify, you must own the property and have the new heating system installed on or after April 1, 2022. The grant is only available if you’re replacing a fossil fuel heating system, such as oil, gas or electric. Even if you’ve already received funding to make your property more energy-efficient, you may still be eligible.

The Great British Insulation Scheme
There are options to obtain free or cheaper insulation and lower your home’s energy bills. To qualify for support, your home must meet certain criteria:
- The home’s energy performance certificate (EPC) must be between D and G. Check your EPC to confirm where your property stands.
- The property is located in Council Tax bands A-D in England or A-E in Scotland or Wales. You can check your Council Tax band to see if you qualify.
Homeowners, landlords, and tenants renting privately or from a housing association may all be eligible for insulation. If you’re a tenant, you’ll need to obtain your landlord’s permission before applying for insulation services. Consider applying for the Great British Insulation Scheme, which provides free or discounted insulation services to help you reduce your energy bills and minimise heat loss.
